Automotive Blog

Even if you are the most careful driver in the world, your windshield can still get damaged. For example, the car in front of you can kick up tiny rocks on your windshield and cause a chip. A little chip might not seem like a big deal, but it can turn into a big crack over time. Here are five tips for taking care of your windshield.

1. Park Your Car in the Shade

The sun is not just bad for your skin; it can also damage your windshield. That is why you should always try to park your car in the shade. If you are unable to find a shaded area, at least cover the windshield with a sheet or large towel.

2. Keep a Safe Distance from Other Cars

Since cars can kick up rocks and other debris, it is very important to always maintain a safe distance. If you drive too close to a car, these debris can hit your windshield and do a lot of damage. Try to stay at least two or three car lengths behind a vehicle.

3. Inspect Your Windshield Often

It is a wise idea to inspect your windshield at least a couple of times a week. When you look at your windshield, check for chips, cracks and other signs of damage. If you notice any damage, you should have it repaired by a professional as soon as possible.

4. Avoid Slamming Your Car Doors

Do you ever slam your car doors? If so, you could be doing unnecessary damage to your windshield. When you slam the doors, it can cause vibrations to the windshield, which can lead to cracks and chips over time.

5. Clean Your Windshield Wipers

A lot of dirt and other debris can accumulate one your windshield wipers over time. If these particles spread to the windshield, it can lead to scratches. That is why it is so important to clean your windshield wipers at least once a week. Just put some windshield fluid on a rag and gently clean the wipers with it.

Maintaining a windshield does not have to be difficult. If you follow these helpful tips, you can keep your car's windshield in pretty good shape. However, if you still notice cracks or chips on your windshield, it is important to get it repaired as quickly as possible. If you wait too long, the cracks will just spread and become bigger. About Greg Chapman

When I was little, I'd watch old movies with my grandfather. One of my favorite scenes was when Steve McQueen tried to jump that big fence on his motorcycle in "The Great Escape." After I saw that, I just wanted a motorcycle. I was obsessed with them! My grandpa knew that, and he helped me build one for myself. He took me shopping for all the parts, taught me about the mechanics of it all, and walked me through all the building and repairs. Since then, my love has expanded to all things that run with a motor, including cars. Even though I'm not a professional, I'm quite skilled, and that has proven handy when it comes to my own repairs and the simple enjoyment of riding my bikes. Check out my blog!
