Get Your Car Detailed

No used car buyer wants to look at a car that is dirty and full of trash. Getting your car detailed will make it look its best both inside and out, which will give buyers a better feel for your vehicle. A clean car is essential for selling a used vehicle, so having your car professionally cleaned is a good investment, and can increase the offer price that you receive.

Give Your Vehicle a Tune-Up

One of the biggest fears that used car buyers have is purchasing a vehicle that is in bad condition. You can make your used vehicle more attractive by having it fully serviced and providing receipts for all of the work that is done. Make sure the oil is changed, the brakes are in good condition, and if possible, service the transmission. This may cost you a few hundred dollars, but if you are able to show that you have recently performed these services, you will find buyers that will pay your asking price.

Check the Tires

No used car buyer wants to purchase a vehicle with bad tires. If the tread on your vehicle is running low, replace the tires and make sure to advertise your vehicle as having new tires. New tires are very attractive to buyers, and in most cases you can sell your vehicle for a higher price if the tires have been replaced.

Price it Right

The key to selling your used car is pricing it appropriately. No matter how much money you have put into it, it is only worth what someone will pay for it. Research the current value of your year and model of car so you can price it appropriately. If you really need to sell your car, the last thing you want to do is price it too high.

Don't Negotiate Before a Test Drive

If a person wants to test drive your vehicle, they are interested in it. Don't try to make any negotiations beforehand—allow them to drive your car first so they can see the value in what they are buying. After a successful test drive, you will have much more leverage when making a deal regarding price.
