...How do you fit Tank Armor...?

It's an easy 4 steps

Step 1.

Firstly, take a clean soft rag and wipe down the gas tank surface, make sure that any light dust or road grime is removed. You must ensure that there isn't any silicon on the tank...this will not allow good adhesion for the suction caps.

(Most good paint polishes do not contain silicon...check yours first)

Step 2.

Gently place the armor into position, you will see an arrow embossed in the top corner of the Armor plate...this arrow needs to be positioned toward the dash unit or centre of the tank if you have no dash unit. The Armor plate has the patent numbers embossed in it also, these are at the bottom of the armor plate when positioned correctly.

Step 3.

Now that you have the Armor in place, gently apply pressure on all the suction cap points. You'll see as they get full adhesion they become clear on the paint work...If you've followed these steps your Tank Armour® is now mounted in place...repeat the process to fit the other side.

...Job Done...

We've had customers offer a few useful tips we'd like to share...

a. If fitting Tank Armour® to flat style colours, such as Harley's Blue and Black Denim you can get strong adhesion by wiping a smear of water that has a couple of drop of dish washing liquid in it. This technique is used widely in the marine industry to gain suction cap adhesion underwater.

b. This method can be used on full gloss paints as well to gain very strong adhesion to the tank surface.....a cup of water with just a few drops is all you need...too much detergent and it will become slippery.

c. To removed Tank Armor® just pick a starting point and gently lift the suction cup away from the tank surface.....as it stretches up it will slowly release it's grip....move to another point of the armor plate and repeat the process.

Never try to pull the plate off the tank in a single tearing motion.

d. Some Harley Davidson's® are fitted with raised metal tank badges, some of these will foul on the back edge of the Tank Armor® not allowing it to fit correctly. This has been addressed by customers fitting the armor, then marking the area that needs to be notched out with a felt tip pen....a small scallop is created with a die grinder or file. This work will need to be carried out by you if your bike has a badge that won't allow the armor plate to fit neatly.
