4 Tips To Help You Prepare Your Oil Heating System While It Is Not In Use

Automotive Blog

With the hot weather, you may not be thinking about your heating system. While you are not using your heating system, it is a good time to think about preparing it for the winter months. You may want to do things like replace filters, flush tanks and have home heating fuel delivered. It can be a lot less costly to do these things now, rather than wait for winter. If you want to start preparing your heating system, here are some tips to help you be prepared when the first frost arrives:

1. Change Filters And Checking Connections

If you have an oil heating system, there are filters that help keep debris out of your boiler or furnace. Over the winter season, these filters can be clogged with black gunk and debris. While you are not using your heating, you can remove and replace the filters. If the filter is still in good shape, you can try to remove debris using gasoline. Sometimes, the filter may just be old and it may be worth replacing it, rather than trying to clean it.

2. Replace Parts And Small Repairs

The filter is not the only part of your heating system that may need repairs. You may also want to look over other parts like valves and connections. If you have an outdoor tank, these parts may be exposed to the elements and need to be replaced from time to time.

3. Clean And Prepare Tanks For Winter

If your tank is completely empty, you can also clean the tank out. Flushing the tank will remove debris that sinks to the bottom of the tank. This debris can get in new fuel and cause problems with your heating system that require repairs. If you have an old tank, it may be time to have it replaced.

4. Fill Tanks With Fuel Before The Rush

During the winter season, heating fuel will be in high demand. If you have already done the maintenance to your tank, now is a good time to have it filled. The prices of fuel may even be lower before fuel is in high demand. Even if the prices are the same, you can be sure that you will not have to wait for your fuel to be delivered.

These are some tips that can help you prepare your heating for winter. If you are ready to take advantage of lower fuel prices, contact a home heating fuel service and have them deliver the heating oil you need to get through the winter months.

About Greg Chapman

When I was little, I'd watch old movies with my grandfather. One of my favorite scenes was when Steve McQueen tried to jump that big fence on his motorcycle in "The Great Escape." After I saw that, I just wanted a motorcycle. I was obsessed with them! My grandpa knew that, and he helped me build one for myself. He took me shopping for all the parts, taught me about the mechanics of it all, and walked me through all the building and repairs. Since then, my love has expanded to all things that run with a motor, including cars. Even though I'm not a professional, I'm quite skilled, and that has proven handy when it comes to my own repairs and the simple enjoyment of riding my bikes. Check out my blog!
